Corporations, from small businesses to multinationals, rely on the TOEIC test to document progress in English-training programs, to recruit, promote, and hire employees, and to implement a common standard of measurement across multiple corporate sites.

English Programs use the TOEIC test to place students at the appropriate language learning levels, demonstrate their progress, and evaluate program effectiveness.

Government organizations and agencies rely on the TOEIC test to document progress in English-training programs, and to recruit, promote, and hire employees.

Description

The TOEIC test is a paper-and-pencil test that consists of 200 multiple-choice questions divided into two separately timed sections. Although the actual testing time is approximately two hours, examinees must complete the biographical questions on the answer sheet and respond to a brief questionnaire about their educational and work history. Therefore, you should allow approximately 2.5 hours to take the test.

The test is divided into two main sections:

Listening Comprehension

Test takers will hear a variety of recorded statements, questions, short conversations, and short talks in English, and answer 100 questions based on what they hear. There are four parts:

  • Part 1: Photographs (20 questions)
  • Part 2: Question-Response (30 questions)
  • Part 3: Short Conversations (30 questions)
  • Part 4: Short Talks (20 questions)

This section will take about 45 minutes to complete.

Reading

Test takers will read a variety of materials and respond at their own pace to 100 questions based on what they have read. There are three parts:

  • Part 5: Incomplete Sentences (40 questions)
  • Part 6: Error Recognition (20 questions)
  • Part 7: Reading Comprehension (40 questions)

This section will take about 75 minutes to complete.
